Cheerleading was officially recognized in the 1970's, but has been a part of the Pop Warner program for several decades. The first ever National Cheerleading competition was held in DeKalb County, GA. Today, 120,000 children are participating in cheerleading and dance around the United States.
Participation in the Pop Warner Spirit Program provides kids an opportunity to perform in an organized, supervised, safety-oriented environment. Pop Warner programs emphasize fun for all and encourage the development of qualities important long after Pop Warner days are gone.
The Spirit Program is growing in numbers each year due to the popularity of the sport. In an effort to keep pace with the many new changes in the cheer and dance industry, there are a few basic rules that are unique to Pop Warner Spirit Squads. The Santa Margarita Pop Warner Cheer program is one of a kind. This family and community based organization has been serving South Orange county for over 25 years! It is comprised of athletes and coaches with an undeniable passion for the sport of cheerleading. We believe that there is no other sport out there that combines sheer athletic ability with the thrill of performance and showmanship like Cheerleading does. Our squads have the opportunity to cheer on their fellow football teams weekly from the sidelines in front of crowds, as well as participate in competitions on the local, regional, and national stages throughout the year. We hold a multitude of championship titles across all levels of cheer. Our JPW and JV teams each placed #3 in the USA of all cheer teams nationally in 2021. The JPW team and JV team also came in #1 in California with the JPW team earning more points for their performance than any other team! On January 21st 2022, the JPW team placed #3 at Las Vegas JAMZ! No other local youth cheer program has this on going success.
Our coaching staff is made up of highly experienced and award winning women who have coached and competed in high school, all-star and other pop warner programs across the US.
While participating with SMPW your child will learn the fundamentals of the sport of Cheer as well as the importance of commitment, leadership, hard work, and being a valuable member of a team- all while making lifelong memories and friendships along the way! Our main goal is to grow these young athletes into strong, fierce competitors while encouraging them to grow in all aspects of the sport to eventually make high school and collegiate cheer teams in the future.
While we feel being a part of a successful program and recreational activity is important for our youth, our program also has a high education standard ensuring that our youth is exercising their brain as well as their bodies. This is why SM Pop Warner is committed to promoting academic excellence and will issue recognition for the academic achievement of maintaining a GPA of 3.0 and higher throughout the school year.
We pride ourselves on being more than just an extracurricular activity that you drop your child off to. We believe in coaching the whole child, expanding their technical skills while providing them with invaluable life skills and making lifelong friendships at the same time.
